Admissions

At Leading Futures, we are committed to supporting learners who are struggling in mainstream settings or those who currently do not have a school place. We work closely with home schools and local authorities to ensure that all learners have swift and secure access to the education they need.

Before making a referral, we encourage a visit from the referrer, parent/carer, and learner to help ensure that our setting is the right fit for the learner’s needs.

To initiate the referral process, the referring party is required to complete a detailed referral form and submit it to enquiries@leadingfutures.uk.

Once we have reviewed the submitted paperwork, and a place has been confirmed, we will offer a Welcome Meeting. This meeting will include the home school/local authority, parent/carer, and the learner, allowing us to discuss the transition and next steps in the learner’s educational journey.

In the event that we are oversubscribed, learners will be placed on a waiting list until a space becomes available.

Our ultimate goal is to support learners in successfully reintegrating back into mainstream education or transitioning to a specialist setting that best meets their needs.

Transitions

We recognise that transitioning to a new setting can be a challenging experience for a young person. It’s common for them to feel a range of emotions, often accompanied by anxiety about the move, adapting to new classroom routines, and making new friendships. However, we believe that learners can thrive during this period if they are provided with a personalised transition plan that includes additional visits and tailored support to help them adjust to new routines.

At Leading Futures, we have a team of highly skilled staff who are dedicated to supporting learners as they settle into their new environment. By offering a bespoke approach, we ensure that each learner receives the individualised support they need to feel confident, secure, and ready to succeed in their new setting.

Transitioning to Leading Futures from the home school

When a learner transitions to Leading Futures, they will attend a Welcome Meeting alongside a representative from their home school or local authority. This meeting provides an opportunity for us to learn more about the learner’s background, their journey to us, and what drives them. We place great importance on understanding each learner’s passions, interests, and talents to ensure a smooth transition.

Upon arrival at Leading Futures, the learner will receive dedicated support from our experienced team, including our SENDCo, to help them settle into their new environment. We believe in maintaining strong communication with the home school throughout this process to ensure the learner’s successful integration and ongoing well-being. This collaborative approach helps us ensure that the learner feels supported and comfortable as they adjust to their new setting.

Transitioning from Leading Futures back to a mainstream secondary

school or specialist setting

For learners transitioning back to a mainstream school or a specialist setting, it is essential that they recognise the success they’ve achieved during their time at Leading Futures. We prepare them for this next step through ongoing discussions and workshops that address their concerns and anxieties about moving forward.

Our Leading Futures Family Liaison Officer plays a key role in this process by attending the welcome meeting at the newly allocated setting, ensuring a smooth handover. Additionally, the Family Liaison Officer will visit the learner for up to four weeks after the transition to monitor their progress and offer continued support. Our goal is for learners to leave with a positive mindset, knowing they are heading to their ‘forever school,’ where they will continue to work towards their end-of-year 11 outcomes.

Transitioning from Leading Futures to Post-16 Pathways

We place great emphasis on supporting our Year 11 learners as they transition into their post-16 pathways, whether that’s college, an apprenticeship, or another route. This is facilitated through Leading Futures support around careers advice, and guidance from external career agencies. We have strong links with dedicated careers advisors who are able to offer tailored support.

We also work closely with the Post-16 SEND team in Wolverhampton and other local authorities to provide further assistance for learners with high-level needs. Our SENDCo plays a vital role by completing personal profiles and reference requests, ensuring that each learner’s support strategies are clearly outlined for a smooth and successful transition into the next stage of their education.
